The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 A mobile GPU has been unveiled. It is noted that the new card offers slightly lower performance compared to previous RTX 3050 models with the Ampere architecture. Here are the details…
NVIDIA’s new RTX 3050 A mobile GPU has lower than expected performance
The NVIDIA RTX 3050 A mobile GPU comes with a 64-bit memory interface and 4GB of GDDR6 memory. This card features 1792 CUDA cores and a TGP (Total Graphics Power) value ranging from 30W to 50W. It is noted that this new GPU offers slightly lower performance compared to previous RTX 3050 models with the Ampere architecture.
The RTX 3050 A is built on the Ada Lovelace architecture and uses the AD106 GPU core. This card has a lower memory interface than the RTX 3050 Laptop and RTX 3050 6GB models. Here is the comparison table:
Features | RTX 3050 A Laptop | RTX 3050 4GB | RTX 3050 6GB |
---|---|---|---|
Architecture | Ada Lovelace | Ampere | Ampere |
CPU | AD106 | GA107 | GA107 |
CUDA Cores | 1,792 | 2,048 | 2,560 |
Memory Interface | 64-bit | 128-bit | 96-bit |
Memory Type | GDDR6 | GDDR6 | GDDR6 |
Maximum Memory | 4GB | 4GB | 6GB |
TGP | 45W (35-50W) | 60W (35-80W) | 60W (35-80W) |
Manufacturing Process | 4nm | 8nm | 8nm |
PCIe Connection | 4.0 x8 | 4.0 x8 | 4.0 x8 |
The clock speeds of the RTX 3050 A are not yet clear, but the Ada Lovelace architecture is generally known for higher clock speeds. While the new card is expected to offer lower performance than previous models, it is still considered sufficient for gaming and graphics performance in portable devices.
It is noted that NVIDIA has reduced some of the performance by disabling some functional parts of the AD106 chip and using lower-level components. This makes the card a cost-effective option while being suitable for portable devices.
